Bridge Culture Club Returns with a Virtual Film Discussion

The Bridge Culture Club is set to host a virtual event to discuss “Witchy Boots,” a documentary film that delves into the historical and contemporary roles of women in the craft beer industry. The gathering will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on October 30 and will be held online via Zoom.

Insights from Notable Figures in the Beer Industry

Attendees of the event will have the opportunity to hear from several prominent individuals featured in or connected to the documentary film. Participants include Emmy Award-winning filmmaker J.S. Phillips, co-owner and head brewer of Earthen Ales Jamie Kidwell-Brix, and Sandy Cockerham, president of the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). Each will answer questions and discuss key themes from “Witchy Boots.”

The Story Behind ‘Witchy Boots’

“Witchy Boots” examines the journey of medieval alewives, some of whom were accused of witchcraft, and draws parallels to modern women brewers forging their paths in what is often a male-dominated beer industry. The film documents the push for inclusion, creativity, and sisterhood within the brewhouse, highlighting both witchcraft history and the current movement towards greater female involvement in craft beer.

How to Participate in the Virtual Event

The virtual film discussion will be moderated by Bridge Michigan membership specialist Rose Cramton. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions directly to the panel and engage with topics central to the film’s narrative. All participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch to the online session and join the open conversation.

To take part, interested individuals need to register by filling out the Eventbrite form. Registrants will receive an invitation and Zoom link upon completion.

Members of the Bridge Culture Club can access “Witchy Boots” as a benefit by completing the request form that was emailed to them on October 12.
