Jurassic World Rebirth Mixes Science, Survival, and Spectacle
Jurassic World Rebirth’s final trailer was released today by Universal Pictures. The dinosaur thriller is set for a Fourth of July release in the United States, just in time for the summer movie season. Jurassic World Rebirth will open on July 2, 2025, and will be directed by Gareth Edwards with a script by David Koepp.
The fourth Jurassic World film and the seventh film in the Jurassic Park franchise, which began in 1993 with Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, will return to the original research island of Jurassic Park. A new team of scientists and military specialists, led by Scarlett Johansson’s character Zora Bennett, is back to work at the original site of the first Jurassic Park expedition, using its cutting-edge science and new scientific advances to conduct a dangerous mission. With a script by David Koepp, the writer behind the original Jurassic Park and its sequel, The Lost World (1997), Rebirth also promises to connect with fans and nostalgia points that the Jurassic World series has been working towards since the release of Jurassic World: Dominion in 2022.
The official synopsis reads:
Five years after Jurassic World Dominion, a dying ecosystem has pushed the planet’s remaining dinosaurs into tightly controlled equatorial preserves that mimic their prehistoric environment. Within one such tropical biosphere, where the largest known dinosaur on land, in the sea, and the air all live, lies the genetic key to a revolutionary, life-saving drug. Enter Zora Bennett, a covert operations specialist, and her team as they work on a top-secret mission to capture the beasts and extract the genetic code. As Bennett and her team search for the code, their path crosses that of a family out on a boating trip, the survivors of which are marooned on an island with a secret from the Jurassic Park past that may be even more sinister than the dinos themselves.
Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali star in Jurassic World Rebirth alongside Rupert Friend, who plays Martin Krebs, a pharmaceutical rep with possibly suspicious intentions. Jonathan Bailey stars as Henry Loomis, a paleontologist working on the project, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo plays Reuben Delgado, whose family is vacationing on a boat when an underwater dinosaur attack sends their vessel crashing on a mysterious island. Reuben’s children are Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda. Bechir Sylvain is also on the mission team. Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge have also been announced in unknown roles.
While a lot of the footage from the earlier released first trailer has been reused, the final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth does a lot of work in the space to establish what fans of the franchise can expect from this new film. The trailer opens with a scene of a worker in a hazmat suit calling out for help as he becomes trapped by the instincts of a starving T Rex. She pleads for help, but it is already too late for him. After establishing the high-octane nature of the film, there are several moments of action, suspense, and dinosaur violence that fans can expect in the film.
In the trailer, the new aquatic dinosaur that made a huge splash in the earlier trailer also makes an appearance. The mosasaur, which one of the characters describes as “the worst of the worst,” is set to be a huge part of Jurassic World Rebirth and will hopefully be a major part of the ongoing film series as well. Dinosaurs to be featured in the new film include the three biggest known animals on land, at sea, and in the air, plus an appearance by the original raptors. The scene with a heist of a pterosaur egg is one of the trailer’s big set pieces, with a character in the film describing it as “basically a flying carnivore the size of an F-16.”
Jurassic World Rebirth has been set up to connect with the series’ past and give fans of the franchise some new thrills, as well as some nostalgia and potentially darker corners of the series’ original premise than were seen in the original Jurassic Park trilogy. Jurassic World Rebirth has a sense of what made the original Jurassic Park so fun and fresh. While the original film’s research island was used to stage a large-scale theme park on an isolated island, Jurassic World Rebirth is going back to the science.
Jurassic World Rebirth will be hitting theaters worldwide on July 2, 2025.
